Referral letter

All patients insured by a Dutch insurance wishing to see a specialist, first require a referral letter from their GP.

If you do not have a referral letter, you may still make an appointment with a specialist at our polikliniek but it is likely that your insurance company will not reimburse you.

 

Insurance coverage and billing

We have a direct billing agreement with ONVZ, meaning that we will send the invoice for your treatment directly to them.

In the absence of a contract, the insurance companies still have the obligation to reimburse you for the polikliniek invoices but they can limit the amount they reimburse to a maximum that they set themselves .  The reimbursement will be higher for Restitutie policies (free choice of your doctor)  than for Natura policies (where the insurance can direct you to selected doctors). ONVZ offers only a Restitutie Policy. On the websites of the insurance companies you can find the maximum amounts that they reimburse for non-contracted parties. 

For this reason we  advise all of our patients to choose for a Restitutie Policy rather than a Natura Policy with their insurance provider. The following link will take you to an overview of the insurance sector.

Upon completion of treatment, all of our patients (with the exception of patients insured by ONVZ) will receive their invoice from us via email through the secure KPN Zorg Messenger. Please note, that it can take up to four months after your initial visit for you to receive your invoice.

 

Eigen risico

Please be aware, that all Dutch insurances impose a mandatory eigen risico or ‘own risk’ on all patients.  This excess amount is regulated by the Dutch Government. Your eigen risico is usually deducted from any reimbursements you may receive from your insurance company.  Specialist consultations are a part of your eigen risico.  In 2019, the minimum amount is 385 euros.  

 

No-show / Cancellation fees

We adhere to a strict 24-hour No-show / cancellation policy.  Therefore, please be aware that unless we receive at least 24 hours notice by emailing us, prior to an appointment with one of our medical professionals, you will receive an invoice and be charged a No-show / cancellation fee.  This fee is not usually reimbursed by your insurance company.
