Dr Nieneke van den Akker, M.D., GP
Nieneke van den Akker was born in Rotterdam. In 2007 she started her studies of medicine in Leuven, Belgium. During her studies she went for one year to Spain and did several internships abroad in Burkina Faso, Cameroon and Germany . In 2014 she started her residency of General Medicine in Brussels, where she focused on contraceptive use in immigrants. Afterwards she joined a group practice and also worked some time in Nepal, in the mountains. In the summer of 2017 she went to Lesbos, Greece to work in a refugee camp as a volunteer doctor. She came back to Holland in November 2017 and started to practice medicine at the International Health Centre.
Nieneke has always been interested in intercultural medicine and worked with people from all over the world from different cultures and backgrounds. She speaks Dutch, English, French, German and Spanish.
